Silpada Shoot in the DR
Okay you guys, I wanted to show you why I was a little MIA last week. I left on Tuesday morning at about 4:45am for the Dominican Republic to work as the wardrobe stylist for Silpada Designs on their spring/summer catalog. (Pinch me) The trip down there was a little crazy to say the least (cue missed connecting flight by 5 minutes, and then had some very unusual peeps on our flight from ATL to DR). Anyways we landed safely in the Dominican (with all the clothes, thank the good Lord). And headed for the all night buffet (hello starving at 11pm at night).
We woke up the next morning to scout the Paradisus resort for the best places to shoot the catalog. Yes, that was our main plan for the day. Hello awesome! So we did. We walked all over the resort and found the best little pockets of palm trees, fun swings, gorgeous mint storage building, and of course the beach at sunrise. With all of the outfits pre-planned (with some wiggle room of course) we knew what kind of colors and textures we could play with in the background to make the jewelry and outfits pop. Then we headed out to the beach to plan out the shots in order for the next day and half shoot. Gotta have a plan to make it all work super smoothly. And that we did. Cleaned ourselves up for dinner and unpacked the wardrobe and then headed to bed in prep for the 5 am wake up call.
Bzzz goes the alarm and on the coffee pot went (with literally the best coffee in the world). Literally it was like crack without any crash (never done it, but you get the gist, right!?). I then head over to check on the models and prep the outfits in shot order and make sure we have all the things we need for the day. And we hit the beach for the gorgeous sunrise shots. And the rest of the day is a totally blur of sand, palm trees, party shots, and outfit and jewelry changes. We got cleaned up for another awesome dinner and then a little prep for the second half day of shooting and then off to bed. (Oh and throw in a few Viber texts and calls to Kev and my dad too).
Bzzz goes the alarm and on the coffee pot went with that 5 am wake up call. Hustle over to the wardrobe room and get the shots together for the busy half day of shots on the beach, in the lobby, palm trees, and I think back to the beach. A whirlwind of shots and jewels and that's a wrap! The models and make up artist (ABP Makeup) head back home. Then we packed up the wardrobe and props. And headed out to the beach for some down time in the sun. And reminisce on the absolutely amazing experience we just had! Jumped in the ocean and laid in the waves. Talked about the whole shoot and how insanely honored we were to be apart of such an amazing shoot. Then went and got cleaned up and out to dinner with the whole team! Enjoyed an amazing dinner and then danced on the beach to end the whole experience perfectly! I headed back to KC on Saturday in the early AM with no problems at all.
Truly blessed and honored to get to do what I do. So thanks for reading all of this and supporting what I do. I work insanely hard to make it look easy. So I hope you enjoy this catalog too when it drops in late April. Don't work I'll keep you in the loop. Happy Monday y'all!
