When it comes to navigating the whole shopping scene since being postpartum, and not back to my pre-baby weight, it did seem pretty intimidating. Like, should I invest in a piece full price or wait for it to go on sale? Or if something is on sale, would it actually go with anything I already own, that still fits me? So, with all of those thoughts I thought I'd help those on this struggle bus. Here are my tips for shopping postpartum and knowing what pieces to actually grab on sale.
I've talked about saving the pieces you love on Pinterest before, and I will always recommend starting there. I have a board labeled 'get in my closet' and it is literally everything I stumble upon that I would love to have in my closet, truly. That way when I am feeling uninspired or like I am in need of something new, I know where to look first. Here's how I recommend you use Pinterest to shop
1. Set up your 'Wish List' or 'Buy for Me' or 'Get in my Closet' board on Pinterest
2. Add the Pinterest widget to your bookmarks bar
I recommend doing this because it allows you to Pin any image from any website to your custom Pinterest board. So you can add anytime, anywhere. So, you can always save items you love and be able to return back to them whenever you want.
3. Check back on the Pinterest Board and delete out the pieces that you know don't make sense for your life.
Let's keep it real here. You have limited time on your hands, so only keep pieces here that you will ACTUALLY wear. If you're a stay-at-home mama, a working gal, and casual lady, and rich bitch, you know what pieces you wear in your life. So, if your casual, keep it casual. If you're dressy keep it dressy. Stay true to you!
4. Buy items according to needs.
Sorry to be so bossy. But, this is my way to help style you up. Be aware of what you own, and only buy pieces you don't already own, but fit your style needs. Have lots of pants, don't buy pants. Always feel like you need tops, buy tops. Ya feel me?
5. Re-wear those items and outfits until you're blue in the face. Who says you can't re-wear. You're not in middle school anymore, and you're on your own payroll, and let's face it, if you love it. Wear it.
Now, how have I decided what pieces to buy since having the baby? I'm glad you asked, I truly have purchased pieces that are not HUGE investments, and I know I will still be able to wear once I do loose more weight. I'm not a big work out gal, despite my last post ;), but I have been hitting the gym and I know I won't be comfortable staying this weight for evs. So, this skirt for example, I LOVED it when I didn't have a waist while I was pregnant with Bennett. And then I found it on sale at Anthropologie, and I remembered how much I loved it originally. I loved how many colors it has, and knew that I would have things that DO fit now, and would be able to wear it now. And that is exactly what my need is now. I need pieces I can wear now and feel good in. I've noticed that lately I've been reaching for dressier pieces and not really liking what I had to choose from. So, this skirt definitely helps fill that void, and re-wearing this top too.
Did that help? I sure hope it helped shed some light on how to shop postpartum and how to make sure you don't over spend when shopping sales.
